Greetings from IIT Madras!

We, at IIT Madras, plans to conduct an International Workshop on Natural Gas hydrates – Exploration and Production, from 7 to 9th August 2012. The venue will be at IIT Madras.

In the area of natural gas hydrate, there had been no efforts in the country, by any academic institution, to bring together the people from different background, including geophysicists, engineers, scientists, etc., to aid the learning process. There is a wide research gap in the country in the area of properties of hydrates that are vital and closely related to production challenges. We believe that the Petroleum Engineering program of IIT Madras can take lead in forging academia-industry linkages towards scientific capacity building in this area.

For this course, experts from abroad (from UT, Austin, Colorado School of Mines, Texas A&M University, Schlumberger-Doll Research Centre, etc.) are invited to deliver specialist lectures and have confirmed their participation. We, also, will bring out the lecture notes and will get it published. We hope this forum will set the perfect platform to take further in the right direction and will stay committed on this aspect.

This geographic barrier can be reduced through practical applications of information technology in all possible areas like education, health, agriculture, tourism, business etc. By looking into these aspects, the main theme of ICISC’13 is decided to be “Information, System and Computing” for rural development.

Greetings from PTO-RGCE…

First of all PTO extends its warm regards to all students, teachers, student placement coordinators, staff coordinators and those who are interested in our blog.

We would say this year as a grand success in terms of placement when compared to previous years even though the numerals are less. In terms of number of students placed in core companies, this year it is high when compared with previous years. With two of us here to function as a team, we expect to double and quadruple the number of placements in the next two years. We would also try to bring in present final year students for placement drives due next year.

We in PTO wish all the students to perform well in the final examinations scheduled this May & June. As your examinations approaching we in PTO are preparing to close this year’s recruitment and we wish all the passing out students a good luck and a bright future.

We have some 57 students who were shortlisted for the HR round of Ascenders Technologies. Those in the list have to wait for that round till their exams get over as we are informed so. Not exactly, we close this year’s placements but our statistics may further increase. Also, the placement assistance to the Alumni will extend till July this year.

Some of you may be aware that the Graduation Day ceremony for the passed out 2010-11 batch students had been scheduled on 14^th May. We advise existing Alumni members to moot your seniors/friends/juniors(2010-11 batch) to join the Alumni community. This would help us to get through some placement prospects. and thereby it helps your juniors in future.

It is our duty to again thank all the student placement coordinators as we got some timely response and updates from them. We also thank all the departmental staff placement coordinators – we have sustained some difficult situations only because of their assistance in needy times.

Finally, the icings of this year’s beautiful cake, i.e., the placed students – we wish them a promising & challenging career and a great success in their future endeavors.

The institute invites application for admission in a 2-year M.Tech. programme in Petroleum Engineering for the academic session 2012-13.

Eligibility

A 4-year B.Tech/B.E. degree in Petroleum, Petro-Chemical, Production, Chemical, Electrical,  Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.

GATE score basis: Shortlisted candidates based on their valid GATE scores will be called for a written test followed by an interview. Final selection list will be made on the scores obtained in the written test and interview aggregately.
Company sponsorship basis: GATE score is not required. These candidates must appear for a written test followed by an interview. Such candidates will not be eligible for M.Tech. fellowship. Candidate should have worked for the sponsoring organization for at least one year.
